Send links in Instagram DMs automatically
Instagram captions don't support clickable links. Instead of sending people to your bio, let Hypello send the exact link they asked for in a DM, seconds after they comment.

What is comment-to-DM?
Comment-to-DM is an Instagram automation that sends a direct message when someone comments a specific keyword on your post or Reel. Links in DMs are clickable, so it is the quickest way to get the right link to someone who asked for it.
The challenge
The link in bio problem
Links in Instagram captions aren't clickable, so most creators and brands say “link in bio”. That sends people away from the post, into a profile with a list of links, where they have to find the right one.
Comment-to-DM flips the process. Viewers comment a keyword, and the right link arrives in their inbox, where they can open it now or come back to it later. Each comment also signals interest in your post.

How it works
How to auto-send links when people comment
- 1
Choose the DM from Comments template
Open Automations, click Add Automation, and pick DM from Comments.
- 2
Select your post or Reel
Choose a specific post under Select Instagram Posts or Reel, or Any post or reel to use one automation everywhere.
- 3
Add your keyword
In Set Trigger Keywords, add the word from your call to action, such as SHOP or LINK, or choose Any keyword.
- 4
Write the DM with your link
In Send DM, add a short message and a link button. Use a carousel to send several products in one message.
- 5
Go live and test
Click Go Live, then comment your keyword from another account to check the link arrives.
In detail
How link DMs work in practice
One post or every post
For a campaign, select a specific post or Reel so the DM matches that video exactly. If you use the same call to action across your content, such as LINK for your shop, choose Any post or reel and a single automation covers everything you publish.
Buttons, carousels, and a friendly first message
Instead of pasting long URLs, Hypello sends links as tappable buttons. Use a single message with a button for one product, or build a carousel with several cards, each with its own title and button, when a Reel features more than one item.
You can also switch on the Welcome Message to greet people before the link arrives, add a quick-reply button to it, and insert the person's Instagram username so the message feels personal rather than automated.
When people share your Reel instead of commenting
Plenty of people send a Reel to themselves or a friend rather than leaving a comment. With Share Content in DM switched on for a selected post or Reel, the same automation runs when someone shares that content to your DMs, so they receive the link too. This option works on a specific post, not when Any post or reel is selected.
Public replies that look natural
Add at least three public reply variations and Hypello picks one at random for each comment, so your comment section doesn't fill up with identical text. You can tag the commenter, tag your own account, or tag no one. If a post goes viral, Limit public replies skips some public replies to keep activity at a safe level, while every commenter still receives the DM.
Knowing who clicked
With Track DM URL turned on, Hypello knows when someone clicks the link in your DM. That information powers Follow-Up DMs, so people who opened the message but didn't click can receive a gentle reminder later.

Best practices
Best practices for link DMs
- Use one short, memorable keyword and say it clearly in the caption and video.
- Send the specific page people asked for, not your homepage.
- Keep the first message short. The link is the reason they commented.
- Use public replies so viewers know the link is coming.
- Disclose affiliate or sponsored links where required.
